COVID-19 Working From Home

Did you work from home/are still working from home due to COVID-19? If so, you would have expenses that you can claim a deduction for at tax time!

The Australian Tax Office has realised that tracking these expenses can be challenging – so they have introduced a temporary shortcut method.

This allows you to claim a deduction of 80 cents for each hour you worked from home between 1 March to 30 June as long as you:

  • Are working from home to fulfil your employment duties and not just carrying out minimal tasks such as occasionally checking emails or taking calls.
  • Have incurred additional running expenses as a result of working from home.

*Important to note – you don’t have to use the shortcut method. You can choose one of the existing methods to calculate your deduction.
